The historic Alger Press building in downtown Oshawa was transformed into a university faculty building which opened in early 2011. This was a challenging project with an extremely aggressive schedule and budget, compounded with historical considerations, significant restoration work, a timber-framed building and numerous site issues discovered during construction. A number of innovative solutions to existing conditions and building code requirements were developed for the project.
The 80,000 square foot building houses a modern library, classrooms, staff office space, and student study areas. The project won an Urban Design Award from the City of Oshawa in 2012.
